Gorba riders on YouTube!
Post by stoner on Dec 2, 2007, 1:32pm

Hopper did a bad thing - he brought his camera with him on a ride this fall. He and DannyW and I taped each other riding up stuff. I've done the same since then a few times, sometimes with them and sometimes with others (and a few shots where I put the camera on the ground and rode by myself).

As is usually the case, stuff looks REALLY easy on video. Basically, I took the footage that I had and took the best attempt for all of us. The vast majority of it is Hilton but there is some of me climbing Big Butt and the Lymie Ridge Climb at Waterdown. Those two climbs are really hard in real life but look almost flat here!

I know it's too long. In fact it we had to split it in two so that Windows Media Player would save it. DannyW's got the grey bike, I'm on the blue one, and Hopper's is the colout of urine.

Oh, and the last 45 seconds of Part 1 has perhaps the best 45 seconds of music ever recorded! (If you listen to it loud). Unfortunately, YouTubing it has killed the quality of the audio - in addition to mangling the video!

Thanks to the boy for putting it together!!!!!!! and to Mr Whyte for taping a couple things!

What'yah think?

no fair, the video really does not do the trails nor the hills justice. Loved the end of P2, great choice of music.
Where is that climb where you spotted each other?
Great riding, makes you want to get out and ride,

Ute

Thanks ue,

No, it doesn't do it justice at all - unless you've ridden the trail and know the feature then it's not going to mean much to you and it's going to look pretty lame...

Yeah, my son picked that music - it is good, eh?

That spotting hill is the middle of the three tough parts of southbound BR 0.

Thanks again...

Yeah, it's too long, but I liked it. Also it gives me a chance to observe techniques used to ride over the rocks. The bloopers at the end, though, were a nice surprise.

Nice.
Looks like you had your own no-dab competition.

Thanks Stoner, that was fun to watch

I can't help but wondering if dubbing these songs over the video poses a copyright infraction ???

Yeah, sure everybody does it yada yada yada...

Maybe i'm wrong about this but why not just tape oneself robbing a bank and then post that on Youtube (maybe dubbed over with "Jailbreak" or something for good measure)

Nicely Done Boys!!!!

It is interesting how you each have your own riding style but each very effective in it's own way.

That was in the back of my head some when I was putting it together. The idea of a no-dab at Guelph Lake is obviously the best choice logistically but it has a very limited amount of stuff that's difficult. The stuff in this video is, on average, definately harder and I thought it would be good to show people who were interested.

Thanks

Yeah, Dan and I have a more conventional approach, I thought people who haven't ridden with Hopper might like to see his style.

Thanks,

Paul

Nope. That was the reason for the delay in posting this. I went to Sum41 and paid them royalties to use the songs and the lawyers just sent me the final papers yesterday. Sure, $12,500 plus legal fees is a lot for me to pay to use a few songs for a youtube video, but hey, you guys are worth it!

That, and everyone else is doing it! ;)

Great skills, much respect!
It sucks the way video downplays offroad sports- try angling the camera though. Great vid.

d**n.... uber-buff is a machine on them uphills. Something tells me I'd have a hard time keeping up lol.

Awesome that I recognized the majority of the trails. :) Thanks for that.

Cheers!

thanks johnp,

but as I mentioned, I took all the footage that I had and picked the best run from each of us. Because I didn't do all the rides with Dan and Dave, I ended up being in more of the footage, so it is a little unfair to single me out...

Pretty cool. We should do that Hilton thing again some time. It was really fun for a change.

Certainly the Waterdown hill climbing master takes most of the show though.... Interesting that I don't think I've seen too many vids of people riding 'up' stuff... Next time we're there we'll have to tape the jumps & drops at Waterdown as well.

You are right - it's extremely rare that people make videos of people riding up stuff... That's what makes this one different! :-)

There is this video though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAT58Jq00UA

Bob and JJ and I rode Waterdown a couple years ago and the boy made a seperate video of each one of us - this is mine. It looks uber lame though too (but it was raining at the time so I wasn't into going huge). I also couldn't help but put in at least a little bit of climbing! The good news is that this video is just over 1 minute.
