CST Tires
Post by marco on Nov 22, 2008, 12:42pm

I have been noticing this tire brand in the magazines over the last year or so. Finally decided to learn a bit more when I saw a tire they make that caught my interest, their Copperhead. It turns out that these tires are manufactured by Cheng Shin Tire - the company that makes the Maxxis brand. Their website is http://www.csttires.com/Default.aspx. What I found most interesting was the thread below on MTBreview from one of their marketing guys - as good as maxxis, half the price, a little heavier - hmmmm. Anyone running this rubber?? I would be interested in knowing what this rubber costs, who carry's it or how easy it would be to get.

Here is the quote:

Hello from Taipei!

If I see another part or frame made out of carbon I'm going to puke.

Anyway, the CST Premium line (Same quality as Maxxis but focuses more on durability rather than mega light weight), is a new brand and we have just started doing some consumer marketing hence there hasn't been any reviews yet.

Anyway, without sounding like a sales pitch, I'm aiming this brand to enthusists rather than serious racers (Maxxis' focus). We feel that the vast majority of folks that ride don't need to spend a lot of money on a race level tire, especially if there is an increased chance of sidewall tears and punctures (the price you pay when wanting race level tires). Most of our line retails around half of the higher end stuff, and in my opinion performs just as good.

AND WE DO MAKE A 29er! The Critter comes in a 29x2.1, and I will be probably adding another model in a 2.25 casing for the 2009 lineup. And like Maxxis, we ride what we design.

Any shop can order CST through their distributors. Let me know what kind of riding you're doing and I can point you in the right direction. Do a search for CST in the title on this forum, and I have posted some pages out of our catalog (website's not even up yet), so you can see what we offer.

I'm on here goofing around in the single speed forum and pretending to be good enough to hang around the frame builder forum, so feel free to PM me about tires.
