Pinhead Components - bike part locksPost by chromedome on Aug 29, 2007, 8:31am
Does anybody know much about Pinhead bike locking components?
http://www.pinheadcomponents.com/They offer a system of locking your wheels and seatpost so that you need a special tool-like key to remove them. It looks like a good idea for city bikes, but I find I often have to remove one or both wheels for travel or storage, plus I sometimes want to adjust the saddle height on the trail. Quick release is as handy as it gets, for those situations.
Has anyone ever heard of or checked out this product?

They are distributed in Canada through Norco.
I can get them easily for anyone who wants them.
There are two versions available.
Wheels, and seat at $69.98
Wheels, seat, and stem at $89.98
I will caution that these are for non-disc wheels only. Any skewers that do not use a cam type lever are not recommended because they cannot clamp with the same force as a lever. Because the braking force is so close to the drop out, if the skewer is not tight enough, the hub will come out of the drop out.
