On last night's ride at TP I noticed the weeds were really whipping my shins and forearms. Today my shins and forearms are really itchy - it's driving me at bit nuts (more nuts than I already am).
Other than wearing armour all the time or long sleeves and pants has anyone found a way to prevent this? I'm thinking of trying something like a thin layer of silicone cream.
Any suggestions?

The barrier creams might work, cold water wipe (in the parking lot) will help.
Roy and his buddy mister trimmer have been doing some great work at the lake. Don't know that Roy rides TP much some you would really have to give it your best sales pitch.
or just wait.

I have been thinking about riding TP. I am just waiting for my leg to heal a bit more. I know I am up for an intermediate ride but my leg does not agree. I can pound it for about 60 minutes and then I start getting some inflammation and then the pain starts. I have started up at the gym again and I am really working the legs by lunging all over the place with weights.
Now if someone was willing to take a slower pace so I could enjoy the ride and actually learn my way around I would not mind cleaning some of the prize trails of weeds. Any volunteers / helpers? What would the GRCA say if they found me out there with a weed eater?
Besides I am almost finished at GL and I am still enjoying the new toy.

Sounds like a deal to me. I would be more then happy to contact the GRCA and let them know there would be some trimming taking place, just let me know when.

Ok Stoner, I wondered how long it would take for someone to pick up on that one. If ever there was a poor choice of words to use I think I just picked them!

I could start trimming next week but I am still a lost Rockpile in the woods. Who knows what I might start trimming without a bit of orientation

I'm quite willing to help out with trimming at TP. Just let me know if you want me to help lug the weed whacker around. One caveat, though. I know there's lots of poison ivy in some sections, but I'm not good at spotting it....
And I can certainly lead for a casual ride around the Twin Pond trails, and show where the various sections are.

Thanks Gord,
I really don't care about poison ivy or bees for that matter. Dress the part and and get her done.
Help would be great, by the time I put all my regular stuff on and then strap a weed whacker to the side of my bike and then throw 5 liters of gas on my back I am ready for action. The part I don't like is moving from place to place once I am at work. If you can guide and help move me along I think we can cover a lot of ground in short order.

Back to the original question... I am allergic to just about everything outside. The two best remedies I have found is Reactin (If I think to take something before) or Benadryl (if I take something after).

hey know aren't those performance enhancing drugs??
Are you that guy always passing us on the hills?
Re: Weed allergiesPost by duroc21 on Aug 24, 2007, 7:30am
I am living proof that they are not performance enhancing. I'm the guy on the hills that every stops beside to make sure I'm alright

Though I haven't needed it in a while, I found using an anti-itch lotion beforehand has worked well -- Polysporin makes a good one, and it's clear: I think it's called Pain & Itch Relief: it's fairly broad-spectrum, but has worked wonders (and the mosquitos don't like it either).
Good Luck Martin & Brad.
